Family & Groups spaces in AgapePlay are private circles where a small number of people (2 to 20 depending on tier) share their progress. Common aggregated streak, weekly group XP, internal leaderboard, mutual visibility. It’s neither Battle (duel) nor Tournament (whole community) — it’s the inner circle.
Two flavors of the same mechanism: Family (max 6 members, designed for parents + kids/teens) and Groups (max 20, designed for Bible study groups, friend groups, informal cells).
What each member sees
In the group space:
- Members — list with nickname, avatar, personal streak, weekly XP
- Weekly leaderboard — who earned the most XP this week
- Group streak — consecutive days where every member reviewed at least once
- Recent activity — who finished what (verses, badges, quests)
Nothing personal is shared — no private notes, no answer history, no individual response times. Just the aggregate progress you’d see glancing at your spouse using their phone next to you.
Who it’s for
Family
Parents who want Bible memorization to become a family topic. The family streak is especially powerful with teens — they don’t want to break the streak in front of their parents, and it becomes a pretext for dinner-table conversation.
Groups
Bible study groups meeting weekly, home cells, friend groups taking mutual accountability seriously. The internal leaderboard is friendly — no one gets publicly roasted, but seeing Marie has 2,500 XP this week motivates you subtly.
Difference from Church
The Church space (Church hub) is designed for an entire congregation (50-500 people) with organized clergy. Family & Groups is for the small circle — more intimate, more reactive, more bottom-up.
You can be a member of a church AND have your own 4-friend group in parallel. Both coexist without stepping on each other.
Creating a group
From /groups, click “Create a group”. Pick a name, an emoji, the type (Family or Study group), member limit. You get a 6-character invite code to share. Members join by entering the code.
FAQ
Is it free? Groups of 2-6 members are free. Beyond that, one of the members needs a Disciple subscription or higher.
Can I be in multiple groups? Yes. You can be in your Family group and your Bible study group and a church. Each has its own life.
Can kids under 13 join? With a parent-supervised account, yes. The Family space was designed for this case, with safeguards on external interactions.
